If Amazon.com does introduce their first smart phone will it be a hit? The answer is, if they offer something new, a reason for customers to want this device, and if they get the marketing right, then yes this could be the next big hit in wireless.

There are so many questions.

The first, is this a single smart phone like the Apple iPhone or is this an operating system that works on many smart phones like the Google Android does?

That is a big question.

Will this be an Amazon.com phone with the Amazon.com brand on it, or will it be one of several brands owned and operated by different companies?

I would say it would be easier to take the Google Android route, but it would be more powerful if they could take the Apple iPhone route.

Apple and Google were not wireless companies, but in five short years they rule the wireless smart phone space.

Amazon.com could have the same fortune. Or they could struggle like many other smart phone makers.

It depends how they position this in the minds of the market.

They are already successful with the Kindle. They have an amazing site selling everything, not only books like Barnes & Noble.com

Amazon.com could have unique features to let users shop and manage. They could get special discounts or deals on their Amazon.com purchases. They could store and enjoy music and movies and books.

Much of Amazon’s success can simply be copied from Apple. Not everyone likes Apple, but they like the iPhone idea.

Perhaps Amazon.com’s aPhone could tap this new marketplace.

That raises another question. What will they call this? iPhone and Android are taken. I hear aPhone is available, but they probably want something different and catchy.

So Amazon.com has the raw tools in front of them. Can they make it work is the question?

We’ll see.
