I just listened to the news conference by Cellular South. They have announced they are changing their name to C Spire.
That changes raises a lot more questions they did not answer today. One of them is… Will C Spire be involved with acquisitions of other wireless companies that are not in the south?
The question was asked, and neither a yes or no was given. So we have to wonder what, if anything is coming next.
Just focusing on what they discussed today, they recognize the name Cellular South is dated. They have grown beyond a simple cellular company. They are active in wireless data, Apps, and so many different devices like smart phones and tablet computers.
Have they outgrown the South portion of their name? Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps they just want to be perceived as a larger national leader, but still in the same southern space. We’ll have to watch and see what happens in coming months.
I think what they talked about was impressive, but I am just not sure how different they will be compared to companies like Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, Sprint Nextel and others. They have all been heading in this same direction over the last few years without fanfare.
Perhaps this is Cellular South, or C Spire just getting up to speed? They say that they have sold a bigger percentage of smart phones than other competitors.
Cellular South has always been a good company with good people, a good quality service and with a very attractive price. What is different except for the name? Not sure yet. We’ll have to watch and see.
So far it sounds like this news today was more about the name change and direction for the company going forward, than anything else. This was not about an earthshaking change in direction, or price, or devices or services.
Perhaps really company and even industry reshaping changes will come later.
I don’t think customers will see anything different other than the name on the store at this early stage.
Is this announcement more than just this name change? We’ll have to watch and see what comes next.
Congratulations to Cellular South on the name change to C Spire. This reminds me of the Cingular name when it was created. No one understood it either. However they grew it into one of the best known brands in the business through a massive advertising and marketing and public relations effort.
Will C Spire?
More to come…
