Apple iTV, Are We Ready? Eddy Cue Thinks So | Jeff Kagan Tech Analyst

Imagine watching your favorite TV programs anytime you want, on any device you want, any place you want.

My guess is that is the future that Apple sees with their new iTV.

Apple has made no announcements so far. Apple has said nothing about iTV. In fact that name is my guess as to what Apple will eventually name this initiative.

However we have seen them actively change industry after industry and they have their sites set on the television next.

Eddy Cue, Apple Sr VP is driving this new initiative.

This should have cables television companies like Comcast and Time Warner shaking in their boots. Although they would never admit that. Just look at how Apple has reinvented other industries in their own image.

Expect this new Apple iTV initiative to expand and change the thinking behind television. Expect it to operate with the Apple cloud.

Remember this kind of move based in the cloud, let’s Apple lock their teeth into the consumer marketplace. Customers who use multiple services are more likely to stay with that company.

Expect to be able to watch Apple iTV on your television, your computer screen, your tablet computer, your wireless phone and anything else they are selling.

If Apple does this right, this could be another big transformation of the company.

We have many questions. Will Apple have to work with other companies like Time Warner to deliver content? The same way they work with wireless carriers? Or will they do this on their own over the Internet? Will they share this initiative with other companies from cable television to the web? Or will they pave this path on their own?

And how will this be different without Steve Jobs steering the ship?

Lot’s of questions. We’ll just have to keep our eyes on it.
