Throwback to Harlem Renaissance will encourage free exchange of ideas among theater community.

“The whole idea is in the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance,” said Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, Producing Artistic Director at the company. “This was a time in which artists of the American Theater would gather together to both network and share their many creative ideas and talents in a stimulating environment. We are looking forward to recreating that culture thanks to the Salon.”
The first event will focus on how the upcoming election will impact the quality of life for artists. Actors attending will be asked to prepare a monologue no longer than a minute and a half, while directors, choreographers, playwrights and producers should bring ideas that they would like to pitch to Red Shirt to be produced in the company’s reading series. Carrying business cards and resumes is also recommended.
“We are very excited to offer this platform to artists and view the event as an opportunity to enrich the American Theater community,” said Red Shirt Founder and Executive Producer Frank O’Brien. “The free flow of art is not only encouraged here, but expected.”
The event is invite-only and the fee to attend is $20. As the “Red Shirt Artist Salon” gains traction month-to-month it will serve as an avenue for performers to showcase their work. “Many of these people have been flying under the radar for far too long,” continued Maharaj. “Now is the time for them to have their gifts and voices heard.” Those interested in having their resume reviewed for the event can send it toinfo@redshirtentertainment.com for consideration.
