AT&T had a rough year in 2011, nevertheless they are performing exceptionally well.
Looking at AT&T in 2011 we saw wireless data quality problems, losing the iPhone exclusivity, being denied the T-Mobile merger and the cash and spectrum they had to give up in the process.
With all of that AT&T is still doing very strong business. They are still number one in the iPhone business which is the complete opposite of what many thought would happen.
It makes you wonder how much stronger they would have been had they not had such a rough 2011.
All in all, AT&T is still a very strong and rapidly growing company, in general. They are creating the next Wave to ride as existing Waves crest and fall. Wireless, wireless data, Internet and television are growing, while local phone business is shrinking.
They remain one of the heavy hitters.
AT&T executives made the right move several years ago. There are many challenges ahead, but so far Randall Stephenson and Ralph de la Vega are doing a great job of transforming the company and its position in the marketplace.
