On November 7, Barnes & Noble is expected to introduce a new tablet device similar to Amazon.com Kindle Fire which was also recently introduced and ready to be shipped in a few weeks.

This new market segment looks like it will be one of the hot holiday shopping choices this year.

I think both Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com see this as their way to compete with the Apple iPad. Its a battle of the brands. Not everyone loves Apple. There is room in the marketplace for all three to succeed.

Of course right now we use multiple devices, but as time goes by we will want a single device that does everything we want, well. This is a move in that direction.

This new Barnes and Noble tablet device is not another Nook Color. It’s more. It’s different.

To understand what this new B&N device is, think of the Amazon.com Kindle Fire compared with other Amazon.com Kindles. One reads books, and the other has a color screen, watches movies, surfs the web and more, and has lower battery life.

Barnes & Noble is really turning up the heat this holiday shopping season. They also just announced they are increasing the size of their in-store Nook sales centers.

While last years big holiday gadget was a big screen tv, this year it just may be these tablet from companies like Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and Apple.
