Demps originally sprained his left foot Sept. 18 at Tennessee when one of Florida’s offensive linemen stepped on it. He played this past weekend against Kentucky but carried the ball only eight times. He had his foot X-rayed afterward.
“Hearing positive things about later in the week,” UF coach Urban Meyer said. “It’s not broken. It’s not a stress fracture. … [The X-ray] came back negative. Now it’s just gotta get him healthy.”
Meyer said that Demps would be included in the game plan this week. Demps is UF’s leading rusher with 367 yards on 53 carries and his 91.8 yards per game is fourth in the Southeastern Conference. He has two touchdowns on runs of 72 and 67 yards. He is also UF’s second-leading receiver with 11 catches for 61 yards. Demps hasn’t missed a game since arriving in Gainesville in 2008.
The Gators will be without receiver Chris Rainey for a third straight game, however. Rainey agreed Monday in court to a plea deal in his stalking case and won’t face prosecution, but Meyer said Rainey is still not part of the team at this point and won’t play against the Crimson Tide.
