A recent study, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, has suggested that pterostilbene, a molecule found within blueberries, and a dietary supplement called PteroMax, could reduce blood pressure.

The researchers looked at hypertensive rats, which were divided them into two groups and supplemented their diets with or without 8% pterostilbene from wild blueberries for eight weeks. They were then subjected to a compound that increased endothelial dysfunction. The results showed that the group of rats fed blueberry derived pterostilbene had a significant improvement of aortic vascular tone and experienced less constriction in blood vessels.

This extremely beneficial result of pterostilbene was achieved by working through the nitric oxide pathway, the pterostilbene found that caused the blood vessels to relax and dilate and cause a drop in blood pressure.

The researchers from the University of Maine, Northwestern University, and the University of Louisville commented: ““Our data provide clear evidence that the 8 week dietary treatment with 8 percent wild blueberry in the adult SHR with established endothelial dysfunction results in a significant moderation of the increased aortic vascular tone,”

Blueberries are a rich source of polyphenols, potent antioxidants that include phenolics acids, flavonols and anthocyanins. These compounds have beneficial health properties that can play an important part in preventing and treating diseases such as cancer, neuro-degenerative conditions and high cholesterol. Many ongoing studies are looking into potential applications for blueberries, and the supplement PteroMax, which are reporting positive results.

A spokesperson for pterostilbene specialist, Biotivia said: “Its encouraging to see a potential preventative and treatment for high blood pressure coming from a natural source such as blueberries. We are strong advocates of safe, high quality, natural compounds. It is clear that the healing potential of many of these molecules is only beginning to be realised in practice. This why we have created the first health supplement to contain the powerful antioxidants resveratrol and pterostilbene called PteroMax.”

PteroMax is a revolutionary multi-stilbene supplement which concentrates the molecule in blueberries that was shown in this study and many others to have extraordinary health properties. In PteroMax It is bio-enhanced by the addition of a complex of polydatin, polyphenols from red wine grapes, green tea extract and trans-resveratrol. Bio enhanced means that more of the active compound enters one’s tissues and remains for a longer period of time. PteroMax contains 100mg of concentrated trans-pterostilbene. This is 200 times the amount contained in the only other supplement and is also the correct dosage corresponding to the studies and trials.

The Biotivia spokesperson continued: “Polydatin, another extremely interesting natural molecule, dramatically enhances the bio-availability of the pterostilbene and resveratrol in PteroMax. Polydatin also provides protection against free-radicals and has shown extraordinary anti-inflammatory, cognitive improvement, cholesterol lowering, and immune boosting effects. We firmly believe, based upon our own animal trials that Polydatin is even more potent than resveratrol in terms of its potential to contribute to human health”

The company evolved into one of the world’s leading developers and suppliers of unique science-based nutritional supplements and award winning skin care therapies, with most of their products centered around the use of concentrated resveratrol and complementary botanical extracts.

Biotivia presently has US offices in New York, Los Angeles, Kansas City and international offices in the UK, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Xi’an, China and Mumbai, India.

Beyond its strong consumer base, the company currently supplies researchers, physicians and scientists at Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, The Albert Einstein Medical Center, University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Health Canada, and the University of California. Transmax and Bioforte in particular are being investigated by several major university medical schools as a possible treatment for a variety of conditions that seriously impair the health and well being of millions of people around the world. Biotivia most recently signed an agreement to supply Transmax to the University of Ferrara for use in three human clinical trials in Italy and Egypt on its possible use by Thalassemia sufferers as an alternative to the whole blood transfusions which such patients now require monthly. The Albert Einstein Medical College published a study which elucidated the beneficial effects of Biotivia’s proprietary resveratrol on glucose tolerance and mitochondria function in pre-diabetic subjects. Bioforte was also shown to more than double brain blood flow in a study done at the University of Northumbria in the UK.

Biotivia’s resveratrol products, Transmax and Bioforte, have been independently assessed by Consumer Labs, the leading American quality watchdog, and were deemed both ‘most potent’ and ‘best value’. Transmax has been certified as an investigational drug by the NIH, an endorsement of its safety and purity.

Most of Biotivia’s supplements have been certified Vegan by the American Vegetarian Association.
