As the wireless industry matures companies both work with each other and also compete with each other.
That is the problem we see brewing with a battle between Google and Verizon Wireless.
Google wanted to include Google Wallet on their new line of Android smartphones, but Verizon Wireless says no way. The reason appears to be that Verizon Wireless is going to roll out their own competing wallet-like service.
So who wins in this one? It may have to depend on a court ruling if it goes that far, and it just may.
Verizon is blocking Google from installing Google Wallet on their Android smart phones. This Google Wallet app will allow Google to move into the local advertising market.
Verizon says the reason is because of security around mobile payments, and that is truly a part of it, but that is not the only reason. Verizon wants to control competition.
So who has the final say? Is it Verizon Wireless because they own and run the network, or is it Google because they provide the smartphones?
This is new ground and we don’t really have answers to these questions yet.
Now boys, play nicely together.
