Nokia had a positive show at CES 2012. Their smart phone technology looks good, and so do their partners like Microsoft. They look strong, however that does not guarantee success. What will?

Nokia has a two part job ahead of them.

One they need to reinvent their smart phone technology. That looks on track so far.

Two they need to expand and re-invent their brand. They have not done this yet.

Without both, Nokia will not succeed.

Nokia is not alone. Remember RIM is a good company but their technology and their brand is yesterday. They are having a difficult time modernizing.

Microsoft is a powerful company, but they have not successfully expanded their brand in to the mobile sector and that has caused them to miss the Smartphone opportunity over the last decade.

So for Nokia, so far, so good, but this is only one step in a two step process they have to get right.

Let’s hope.
