Is Clearwire in trouble? It is sure starting to look that way. According to the Wall Street Journal they are considering whether or not to make a large debt payment due in two weeks.
The decision could be a turning point one way or the other.
Clearwire had such a wonderful and dramatic start a few short years ago. They were the first to offer a speedy 4G wireless connection. Since that time every competitor is in the space does the same thing and Clearwire has nothing special to offer. Sales have slowed dramatically.
They intended to continue rolling out their wireless broadband service nationwide, but have reached the line in the sand.
They have the money to make the debt payment, but if they make the payment they will not have what they need to continue the expansion. It’s an either/or time CEO Erik Prusch.
Erik Prusch is stuck. It will be interesting to watch which way he decides to steer the company. Any decision he makes will have a good side and a bad side.
Clearwire needs to raise cash. They need to find more partners and investors. However it is becoming more difficult all the time for the company.
