The Amazon.com Kindle has mainly been competing with the Barnes and Noble Nook until today. Today they start competing more directy with the Apple iPad.
Amazon.com announced their color, touch screen Kindle Fire that does much more than just read books. It also let’s you watch televison and movies and much more.
The question I have is simple. Is this a super eReader or is this a tablet computer? What is the customer going to say? And is the brand change up to the challange?
Apple has done a great job with the iPad. Amazon.com may have Apple in their sites.
However we will have to see this in the marketplace, see what customers think and how they compare these devices, and see how the brand is changed among other things.
This is potentially great news for Amazon.com. Is it just as potentially bad news for Apple? Initially I would say no because Apple does not really experience this kind of damage.
However we’ll have to keep our eyes on the space. There are alot of factors in play on this one. Whether this works or not is still to be seen.
