Today’s Wall Street Journal discusses Amazon.com getting ready to enter the wireless phone business. A topic I wrote about last week.

The smart phone business is the holy grail, yet while there are quite a few who try, only a few companies have seen success so far.

The big two are the Apple iPhone and Samsung with Google Android loaded on it account for roughly half the market.

Other who are trying to enter this space with more limited levels of success are companies like Microsoft and Nokia.

We are expecting to see the new RIM Blackberry 10 early next year as well.

There are so many other operating systems that will try to enter this space in coming quarters. We are still very early in this new game.

Amazon.com has much of what it takes to be successful. They have a growing customer base, a rich and disperse market, the lead in the eBook reading marketplace with the Kindle and Kindle Fire.

The big question is can they be successful in the wireless phone business?

This is a big opportunity for them. If they can crack the wireless code that is.

We’ll see.
