Cablevision Systems 2Q profit fell 28% with increased investment spending.
Cablevision is facing a changing marketplace. Not only satellite television providers, but new competitors like Verizon FiOS and AT&T uVerse, and customers moving back to free television using an antenna, as well as brand new and potentially industry reshaping competition from Google TV and Apple iTV later this year.
The world is changing and Cablevision is having a rough time keeping up even though they are trying to do so.
Cablevision is losing cable television customers which is the source of the majority of revenue. They are growing their broadband business.
Cablevision see’s a significant slowdown of it’s core business.
They are adding high speed data and voice customers, but that is not as profitable.
Whether Cablevision will continue to be a leader is the question. They are wrestling with the same issues as every cable television provider.
