The Wall Street Journal wrote about the FCC Chairman Julius Genechowski circulating a proposal for a formal inquiry into radiation standards for wireless devices like cell phones and tablet computers.
It is a very good idea to stay ahead of the rapid growth in this industry. Wireless devices have grown and changed so much in the last few years, and we have not done a good job of keeping up with it.
Every year we sell more smart phones and tablet computers and they are getting more powerful.
If there is a problem we need to learn about it quickly. This is a problem because we don’t conduct regular official reviews.
We also need to have regular studies like this proposed study.
The wireless world is cool and exciting, but on the other hand it has to remain save as well.
After all we don’t want to get so carried away with what’s new that people get sick with brain cancer and die due to radiation these things throw off.
Many people have cancelled their regular phone lines and use wireless for everything. Many people walk around with a wireless device to their heads for many hours every single day.
The last study this agency made was 15 years ago. Much too long ago.
Every year or two we see another private study that is frightening. We need to know whether there is something to be concerned about.
I would expect phones and devices will vary in safety. We may find some are safer than others. In fact we may find some are more harmful than others.
Like it or not we need to know. It’s the prudent thing to do.
