Google is jumping into the television business competing with cable television, satellite television and telephone company IPTV.
Companies like Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Verizon and AT&T are now looking Google right in the eyes and see a very big competitive threat.
On one hand Google and these companies are partners. On the other hand they are now direct competitors. This will be very interesting to watch play out.
Google is offering television and high speed Internet. First market is Kansas City.
If successful Google is expected to rapidly roll this service out across America.
Google hopes to re-write the rules of the television business the way they re-wrote the rules of the smart phone business.
They succeeded in wireless so the traditional television model is at risk.
Google says Internet would be around 100 times faster than at most home in the US. It also has a package that let’s users record 500 hours of shows.
The prices are similar to many competitors.
Google is turning up the heat both on Internet speeds and other services like television. This has the potential to transform the entire industry.
Like the Apple iPhone was the big bang that transformed the wireless space, this Google television and Internet is the big bang that they hope will have the same result.
As of now this Google television service does not offer telephone service.
Just the sound of it, Google fiber service, is brand new and could be the beginning of a very big and new trend.
Traditional television is now under attack. Google just fired the first shot. Let the games begin.
