Comment, HTC is Struggling | Jeff Kagan Tech Analyst

HTC Corp. is struggling in wireless marketplace.

Their market capitalization has fallen more than $1 billion dollar in just a few short days.

They warned of a weak 3Q.

They posted a 45% drop in July revenue.

This is a company that seemed to be riding the wave, but is not struggling in the smart phone market.

The smart phone market is a continually changing space and leaders can change quickly.

Apple, Google and Samsung are strong, but those lower on the totem pole are more susceptible to rapid marketplace changes. It’s harder for them to keep up or to drive the trends.

Apple, Google and Samsung are the most successful and rapidly growing competitors in this space.

I don’t see any recovery yet. HTC will very likely continue to fall. There just isn’t anything in the pipeline that will change this dismal pattern. It has been dropping for about a year already.

Their One Series of phones just have not moved the company in the right direction. This is a serious and disturbing problem. A fix needs to come.

It’s not that the company doesn’t have great potential. The whole sector is rapidly changing and full of potential for both growth and despair.

So for now at least, it looks like HTC will continue to lose value and market share in this changing smart phone industry segment.
