The Apple iPhone was born five years ago. It spent the first several years with AT&T Mobility. Last year Apple spread the iPhone to Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and C Spire Wireless.
It looks like Apple is not done spreading the iPhone love.
Leap and their Cricket brand just announced they will be the next to offer the iPhone.
What is noteworthy here is this is the first pre-paid carrier to offer the iPhone.
This helps spread the iPhone to more Americans.
Working with these carriers helps to expand the iPhone marketplace.
It also changes the brand meaning which was always high priced and harder to get.
Now that the iPhone is moving into the pre-paid space it opens the brand to a whole new world of customers.
Will this impact other existing networks who sold many iPhones because they simply were not available on pre-paid networks? Perhaps it will.
Will this mean that other existing networks will now also sell the iPhone in their pre-paid world? Yes I believe it will.
Apple is moving onto the next chapter in the iPhone life.
Customers of Leap and Cricket should love this.
Pre-paid customers in general should love this since it opens the iPhone to their world.
Expect to see the iPhone being sold as a pre-paid device on multiple networks going forward.
This will be another interesting year in the iPhone saga.
