RIM led the smart phone space for a decade, but then its wheels came off the tracks a few years ago when Apple and Google transformed the space with the phone and Android. RIM has been struggling every since.
This Blackberry Mobile Fusion looks like RIM’s attempt to finally start thinking in the right direction.
This new approach is along the lines of, if you can’t beat them, join them.
Companies still love RIM even though their users are increasingly using other devices like iPhone and Android. How can they manage hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands of devices in such an environment?
This looks like RIM’s attempt to remain relevant in a changing marketplace. This gives companies the ability to increase security and manage devices that are not their own.
This is a move from RIM more on the software and services side rather than on the device side.
If successful this could be a signal of what RIM will look like going forward. One thing is for sure, one way or the other, RIM will look totally different several years from now.
