RIM introduced a new operating system called BBX. We have not seen it or used it so we cannot comment on it yet.

However a new OS is just what RIM needs.

I hope this will be good for RIM. RIM has been having trouble.

There has to be a there-there.

We won’t know whether this is good, neutral or bad until we see it and try it.

It is good to know that RIM understands the problem and is trying to fix it.

RIM has been trying to move into the consumer marketplace. That is one key mistake. They have no brand name there. They have unsuccessfully competed with Apple and Google. This new software will not help them there.

They should focus on the business segment that knows them. They have a brand name in the business segment. Their marketing and advertising and public relations can work in that segment.

To win with Apple and Google you have to understand and practice brand management, marketing, public relations and advertising well. RIM has never had to do that. So that is a blank spot for them. That is the area they need to update first.
