On Memorial Day 2007, Mollie Voigt received a forwarded email from a soldier’s mother. The email was from her son in Iraq. He told his mom 13 guys and gals in his group had not received anything from home their entire tour overseas so if someone wanted to do something for Memorial Day for the Troops, could they please write a letter of support to boost the morale overseas. This was the first time Mollie heard of our Troops being overseas without support. Morale Builder Packages and letters were sent to each soldier, yet the costs associated with the project encouraged the decision to reach out for help to obtain items for Morale Builder Packages and funds to continue sending the “boxes of love” overseas…and so was born the Mission Soldier Adoption program. The realization was quickly made that many troops overseas could use support from home to make their deployment a bit brighter. After a few months, the program expanded to support all branches of the U.S. Military and veterans here at home as donations from individuals and companies came in from across the globe. On Purpose Journey Inc. became a 501c non-profit organization in 2009 to continue supporting our veterans and heroes overseas through our Mission Soldier Adoption program, as well as adding programs and services that focus on improving the after-combat lives of troops, veterans, wounded warriors, and military families. Programs: *Knitting for Veterans: Handmade scarves made for at-risk & homeless veterans during the holidays *Hugs for Warriors: Our hug acceptor, Major Journey Hug, a dragon bear, needs help getting home to his Military Warrior! Participants hug Journey and write a note to his Warrior. When Journey has enough money and hugs to get home, he is sent to his Warrior accompanied by the notes of encouragement. Journey arrives in the arms of his Warrior, loaded with notes and ready to deliver bear hugs to our United States hero. *Wounded Warrior’s Wonder Woman: Appreciates the wounded warrior, who we’ll call Mr. Awesome, by providing a special present (jewelry) for a grand gal who has been by his side, who we’ll call Mr. Awesome’s Wonder Woman. *Boots at Home: Programs, services, & events which recognize/support military, their families, and veterans here at home. *WINGS: A nominated mother/wife receives a WINGS gift in memory of her son/husband KIA in Iraq or Afghanistan.
