Cox Also Sells Spectrum to Verizon | Huge Win for Verizon | Jeff Kagan Tech Analyst

A couple weeks ago Verizon Wireless hit a home run by acquiring the spectrum of Comcast and other cable television companies.

Now Cox is adding their spectrum to Verizon’s win. This is a grand slam home run for Verizon Wireless. This is very big news indeed.

This is because Cox is exiting the wireless space. If they will sell wireless, they will re-sell Verizon Wireless services.

AT&T Mobility has been wrestling with wireless data capacity problems on their wireless data network over the last several years. AT&T would have loved to sink their teeth into some of the spectrum that Verizon just got.

It looks like Verizon is rolling in spectrum now and should not face the problems AT&T faces.

While this is great news for Verizon, it is terrible news for AT&T and the other smaller carriers.

To keep a competitive marketplace, large and small, need to have access to spectrum so they can compete in the wireless data offering.

So while I am delighted for Verizon, and sad for AT&T, there is a larger problem that still needs to be solved. Capacity for the rest of the industry.

If the competitors in the industry all have access to capacity, the competitive marketplace will keep prices low and innovation high.
