Glasgow, UK, October 10, 2011 — San Francisco based interior designer David Mast has some recommendations for home decorators on making the right rug the focal point of their home. The celebrated designer says that the right rug is capable of visually integrating and harmonising the dcor in any room.
The natural hues and tones of this season’s decorating trends lend themselves particularly well to sisal rugs. This type of natural rug is gaining popularity in modern homes, and it’s easy to see why. Sisal has been lauded for its environmental cred, and insulation properties. Naturally anti-static and stronger than hemp or jute; a sisal carpet is the on-trend way to refresh floor covering in any home.
The size of rug you choose should be reflective of the space you consider. David Mast recommends leaving at least a 15” border of original floor covering around any rug, to show off some of the existing flooring and create a visible and notable border to the rug space. A high quality rug should be the focal point of a room, but not something that takes over the entire dcor.
A fun and eclectic look is to use multiple rugs in one floor space. Using two or three side by side or marginally spaced apart adds interest and warmth to any foyer, hallways or bedside.
