New Book Looks at the Aftermath of Addiction, Marriage, Divorce and its Effect on the Children

“Dad, It’s Time to Tell the Truth!” is the story of one man’s struggle to be a father to four children in the midst of constant turmoil. Rassini writes a memoir that is candid, thorough and at times shocking. He confronts the consequences of abuse, frivolous spending habits and neglect. His family’s seemingly extravagant, normal life to all on the outside had devastating consequences to those living on the inside. He documents his experience with lawyers, doctors and the courts while examining the effects his life choices had on his children. Rassini says:
I have not written this book as a victim. I did not write it to place blame. My goal in writing my story is to share my truths, choices, consequences, and rewards. If one person, family, or child can learn one thing that improves their lives and/or prevents any of the hardships I placed upon myself, my children, and my family and friends, then I have given unconditional love.
In order to help his son heal from a nasty divorce and understand why his father couldn’t be closer to him, Rassini gave his son the only thing he had left – the truth. This bold move exposed Rassini’s vulnerable past, starting with the sexual abuse he endured at an early age by a family member, drug and alcohol abuse, his road to sobriety, losing his multi-million dollar family business and becoming nearly homeless, details of his marriage and divorce from his son’s mother and much more. He writes:
I was failing in protecting my son. Since I began to write this truth, I have peeled away another layer to uncover the fact that I was beginning to feel like a POW. Camille was in charge; she won, and that meant Nick and Sara lost. To me it had become apparent that she hated me more than she loved the kids. From her perspective, being an involved father doing what was in the best interest of the children meant money – money and more money.
After a 12 year recovery from his addictions, Rassini slipped into a relapse for 11 years as a result of his marriage to his second wife. As readers continue on a journey with him, they see him lose God, himself, his family and children. Readers will experience what the loss meant to him and how he found his way back to sobriety and the core values of God, Self, Family and Child. Rassini does not believe his trials have been in vain; he hopes readers will learn from his mistakes and realize the importance of God, Self, Family and Child to improve their quality of life and avoid a shallow existence.
