Google said it will reduce the Motorola Mobility work force they just acquired by 20%. They are doing this to streamline the unprofitable wireless phone maker as the marketplace continues to change.
This is an earthquake up and down the hallways of Motorola Mobility. This company has been going through seismic changes over the last few years.
Google has never laid off workers like this before. So this is also an unsettling feeling in the hallways of Google.
Google has said to expect a fewer number of devices moving forward.
One thing is for sure, Motorola is not Motorola any longer. The company we thought we knew is a now stranger, a puppet being controlled by Google with strings from above.
There is opportunity. After all Samsung has quickly grown to the number one handset maker. The problem is the thinking inside Motorola is out-dated. They are starting to realize that now. The question is simple. Is it too late?
No, it’s not, but Motorola has so far failed to think and operate like one of the new winners. Will Google help? We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.
