We have seen it before. Many times in fact. As a brand new company starts to grow, it starts attracting attention. Over time news stories and buzz grows.

All this attention is positive. Everyone looks at FaceBook and wonders how a bunch of college kids can make such an amazing success story come true.

Then they go public.

When that happens suddenly the coin is flipped and the harder questions are asked. Suddenly other peoples money is in play. Suddenly what was cute and colorful before simply doesn’t work.

Investors simply say, if a company wants to play on our field, it has to play by our rules. This is our game.

Many times companies continue to be successful. Many struggle. Many fail.

What is next for FaceBook? We’ll just have to follow them and see.

One thing is for sure however. They are changing fields which they play, and the rules are different. Will they adapt and continue to succeed?

All looks good now, but things always look good at this early stage.
