Since the Apple iPhone is going to be sold on at least four wireless networks in the US, AT&T Mobility will no longer win new customers from other networks.
Happy customers of other networks can stay on those networks. Customers of Verizon, Sprint and C Spire will not have to switch networks to get the iPhone.
Going forward customers will not switch to AT&T from competitors any more often than normal.
This iPhone exclusive was a bright and shining moment for AT&T, but that is now over.
AT&T will see their iPhone growth slow. In fact there will be a percentage of customers who do not like AT&T and will switch away.
Other carriers will sell a healthy number of iPhones, but don’t expect to see the kind of growth we have seen from AT&T over the last four years.
With four carriers the growth will now change and look more like the Google Android.
Going forward iPhone growth will continue, but the impact on various networks winning new customers will be limited.
I would say we can expect this year to level the playing field. After this year the market share with each carrier should remain the same.
