Early this week it appeared that Miami Hurricanes leading rusher Damien Berry would miss a second straight game but now it appears Berry will play in Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes must win to have any chance at the ACC Coastal Division title.
Berry returned to practice this week after not having practiced since the Virginia game Oct. 30 because of an upper leg injury. He also has been affected by the flu. The senior leads the Hurricanes with 690 yards and four touchdowns and sat out last Saturday’s game against Maryland. Berry is trying to become the school’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Willis McGahee in 2002.
Quarterback Jacory Harris has practiced on a very limited basis this week but will miss his second consecutive game because of a concussion sustained against Virginia. UM coach Randy Shannon officially ruled Harris out against the Jackets. True freshman Stephen Morris will make his second consecutive start.
Morris completed 18 of 30 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown — with two interceptions — in a 26-20 victory over Maryland last week. He hit Leonard Hankerson with a game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds left. Morris also ran for 16 yards on a third-and-11 on the winning drive. The 286 yards passing was the most for any UM quarterback this year.
However, Shannon said that despite Morris’ impressive performance that Harris will be the starter when healthy. Harris had started 22 consecutive games before last week and ranks second all-time at UM in touchdown passes (50) and third in passing yards (6,193).
The Hurricanes are 3-point favorites at Georgia Tech on Bodog’s NCAA Football odds.
