Kahnawake, QC, November 9, 2010 — The Iowa Hawkeyes were fortunate to keep their Big Ten title hopes alive on Saturday as they squeaked by Indiana 18-13 while playing without No. 1 running back Adam Robinson, who had a concussion.

But in a way that might have been a blessing in disguise as true freshman Marcus Coker replaced Robinson in the lineup and rushed for 129 yards on 22 carries.

“I thought he really did a great job,” coach Kirk Ferentz said to reporters “He stepped up big for us.”

Thus now Iowa might have some depth it didn’t know it had.

“Marcus more than pulled his weight,” Ferentz said. “Moving forward, I think maybe we’ve got two guys who are capable.”

Robinson should be back for this week’s game at Northwestern – bet on it with Bodog’s NCAA odds. The 5-foot-9, 209-pound sophomore leads the Hawkeyes in rushing with 806 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was hurt during the fourth quarter of a 37-6 win over Michigan State two weeks ago but will be allowed to practice on Tuesday.

“If there’s a silver lining here, he’s well rested,” Ferentz said. “He got a week off. He hasn’t been hit in a week and should be ready to go for the last three games.”

Robinson also ranks fourth on Iowa in receptions with 16. He’s got 254 receiving yards and a touchdown. Iowa managed just the 18 points against Indiana, a team that had been giving up 28.75 points per game before the game. Iowa had been averaging 34.13 points per game in its previous eight contests.
