Kahnawake, QC, October 24, 2010 — The UCLA Bruins have a tough enough task this Thursday night in facing the No. 1 ranked Oregon Ducks, and the Bruins might have to do it without their starting quarterback – bet on the game with Bodog’s NCAA odds.

Prince has sat out practices early this week to “rest” his injured right knee, Coach Rick Neuheisel said. Prince underwent an MRI exam on the knee Monday, as the UCLA medical staff was trying to determine the source of the pain and swelling that has persisted since he was injured against Texas on Sept. 25.

Prince’s knee problem has been an ongoing issue since he was injured. He sat out against Washington State on Oct. 2, then struggled through a 35-7 loss to California on Oct. 9. Richard Brehaut made the first start of his college career in that game against Washington State, leading UCLA to a 42-28 victory. It was UCLA’s highest scoring output of the season, and Brehaut completed 12 of 23 passes for 128 yards — the most by a UCLA quarterback this season.

“We have been trying a lot of different things, but it hasn’t been improving as fast as we would have liked,” Prince said.

Offensive coordinator Norm Chow said that even if a decision has been made on a starting quarterback for Thursday’s game, the Bruins would probably not announce it until the last minute.

“If we say Richard is that starter, they go watch the Washington State tape,” Chow said. “Now, they’re not sure and they’re going to look at all the tape. We would be foolish to give away our guy now.”

Neuheisel also said cornerback Sheldon Price is now doubtful for the Oregon game.
