Kolb of course started the season opener and struggled against the Packers before suffering a concussion. That led to Vick taking the starting job until his injury last week, and Vick’s passer rating of 108.8 remains third in the NFL. Kolb relieved him and went 22-for-35 for 201 yards with a touchdown and interception. He led the Eagles on three scoring drives in their 17-12 loss to the Redskins and two other drives inside the Washington 32-yard-line that resulted in turnovers.
Kolb now faces a Niners defense that ranks 20th in passing yards allowed per game. It has allowed over 250 passing yards in three of its four games, as well as multiple TD passes in three of its four games. Opposing QBs have completed better than 67 percent of their passes against San Francisco.
And even if Kolb plays well, Coach Andy Reid said Vick will be the starting quarterback when healthy. Asked if the job could be up for grabs, Reid said: “No, [Vick's] the starting quarterback.”
But Reid also said that a few weeks ago about Kolb before reversing course 24 hours later.
Meanwhile, Eagles starting running back LeSean McCoy could also miss the 49ers game because of a broken rib. He is likely to be a game-time decision at best.
