Coach Mike McCarthy said Rodgers suffered the concussion on a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the Packers’ 16-13 overtime loss.
”I know at a minimum he’ll miss some practice time,” McCarthy said.
There’s just a little bit of a dropoff from Rodgers, a preseason NFL MVP favorite on Bodog to backup Matt Flynn, a third-year player who has thrown 17 passes in his career. Rodgers must be free of concussion symptoms — even after rigorous exercise — and cleared by the team doctor and an independent neurologist before he plays again.
Rodgers completed 27 of 46 passes for 293 yards and one touchdown Sunday. He was sacked four times and threw one interception but his receivers also dropped seven passes. Green Bay was held to just 13 points, its fewest scored since Rodgers became the starter in 2008.
Meanwhile, star tight end Jermichael Finley had arthroscopic surgery on his torn meniscus Tuesday and is expected to miss 3-6 weeks. Finley also was hurt Sunday. With Donald Lee also out for a few weeks with a chest sprain, the Packers are down to just two tight ends. First-year players Tom Crabtree and Andrew Quarless accounted for all five of their combined NFL receptions Sunday.
On defense, outside linebacker Clay Matthews (hamstring) and defensive end Ryan Pickett (ankle) could also miss this week’s game with the Dolphins – bet on it with Bodog’s NFL odds.
