Sanchez has admitted he will need offseason surgery on his injured shoulder, but Coach Rex Ryan said he thought his starter would be healthy for the wild-card game against the Colts on Saturday. Bet on it at Bodog’s NFL odds.
“Well I think he is going to be 100 percent,” Ryan said. “Here I am with my percentages, but I think he will.”
In the last two weeks, Ryan has gone back and forth about whether or not to start Sanchez.
“I think he’s healthy,” Ryan said. “I think he’s going to be ready to go.”
Sanchez said his shoulder felt “pretty sore” Sunday, but reiterated that he is “ready to play; ready to go” for the playoffs. He already has been assured by the trainers he’s not jeopardizing himself for the future by playing through it.
Ryan also said that right tackle Damien Woody (knee) should be back for the Colts game, and safety Eric Smith was a definite after passing all his post-concussion tests.
New York (11-5) earned the fourth 11-win season in franchise history — and first since the 1998 team went to the AFC championship game. The Jets, the No. 6 seed, will play at Indianapolis on Saturday night. The Jets lost to the Colts in the AFC championship game last season. Ryan admits this matchup is personal for him.
“With Peyton Manning it’s like, ‘I want to beat him,’ ” Ryan said today.”I don’t know when I’m going to beat him, but I want it to be Saturday. Is it personal? Yes. It is personal against him, Reggie Wayne, all these guys; (Dwight) Freeney and (Robert) Mathis, and all those other dudes? Absolutely. But I want to win.”
