Kahnawake, QC, December 20, 2010 — After starting 297 consecutive games, it appears that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will sit out a second game in a row Monday night when the Vikes host the Bears in their “home” finale.

Favre still hasn’t recovered from a shoulder injury that sidelined him last week against the Giants so rookie Joe Webb, the 199th overall pick in this year’s draft who originally was going to be used as a receiver by the Vikings, is expected to start against Chicago. The game will be held at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium because the Metrodome couldn’t be repaired in time from last week’s roof collapse. Temperatures for the game are expected to be around zero with wind chills reaching minus-20. Tough conditions to make your first career start.

Favre himself seemed resigned to the fact the he has played his last NFL snap after a down year in which he threw 10 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

“Twenty great years, good and bad,” Favre said. “Good plays, bad plays. Last second finishes, great ones, almost finishes. Bad hits, barely escaped another. I knew going in, as with any season, there are no guarantees, and things may not go as you would have hoped . . . If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. I’m not going to beat myself up over it one way or the other.”

Backup QB Tarvaris Jackson suffered a turf toe injury in last Monday’s 21-3 loss at Detroit’s Ford Field to the New York Giants and is done for the year. With Favre ailing and Jackson on injured reserve, Webb’s only healthy backup would likely be Patrick Ramsey, a nine-year NFL journeyman who signed Wednesday but hasn’t played a meaningful snap since 2007 with Denver.

There is no line yet on the Bears-Vikings game on Bodog’s NFL odds.
