Bodog offers odds on where current Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb will be playing next season as most expect he will leave Washington. And if San Francisco tight end Vernon Davis has his way, McNabb will head to the 49ers.
“Oh man– I’d love to catch some passes from Donovan McNabb,” Davis said in an interview with Terrell Owens on the T.Ocho Show, which airs on Versus. “I saw some of the things he did with you when you were playing with him and he did a great job getting you the ball. That’d be tremendous — I mean, whoever they bring in really — but having Donovan McNabb, that’d be outstanding.”
Although McNabb is under contract with the Redskins, there is a good chance they release him in a money-saving move before the 2011 season because McNabb and coach Mike Shanahan had a falling out. The Redskins own McNabb a $10 million option bonus the day after the 2011 regular-season opener. McNabb has said he’d like to return, while Shanahan has said he’d welcome McNabb back but as a backup. In benching McNabb for the final three games, Shanahan admitted he erred in trading two high draft picks (a second and a fourth) for the six-time Pro Bowler and needed to go in another direction. McNabb’s agent and Shanahan are expected to meet soon, although the uncertain NFL labor situation might delay any resolution.
McNabb might be attractive to the Niners because he is a veteran who is well-versed in the West Coast offense that new coach Jim Harbaugh will install this offseason. The Niners are expected to jettison former No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith, who never lived up to his promise. McNabb is currently listed as the 3/1 Bodog favorite to be San Francisco’s starting QB next season.
