Nokia launched the first versions of their new smart phones based on Microsoft software. It is called Lumia 800 and Lumia 710.
Nokia Symbian OS just never caught on. They dumped that idea earlier in the year.
Nokia is hoping this partnership with Microsoft will be just what they need.
Microsoft is hoping the same thing. Their smart phones just have not caught on either.
This is a story of two, strong, industry leaders that have hit a dry spot in the smart phone sector.
They think getting together will make them stronger. Will it?
Microsoft is still a strong company having trouble entering this space. However Nokia has been weakened.
Nokia has been hemorrhaging business since the Google Android and Apple iPhone hit the market several years ago.
The question I have is will Nokia keep knocking their head against the wall trying to compete with the new leaders or will they focus on leading the next tier first. Stablize. Then expand.
This is not funny any longer. Nokia was a leader in handsets, but not smart phones. They have a strong brand name in handsets, not smart phones.
They have a choice. They can continue to try and combat the two new industry giants or they can lead in another segment.
What will they do?
