Nokia and Microsoft are getting ready to launch their first joint smart phone in the US.
Over the last several years we have seen both Nokia and Microsoft struggle to make headway in the smart phone market.
Not long ago they decided to form a partnership and join forces. Their first device called Lumia will be unveiled next week.
These two companies hope this is a re-birth for them in the changed smart phone space.
Will it be successful? That is the million dollar question we are all curious about.
It depends how advanced and hot this device is. It depends how well the market and advertise it. It depends whether the marketplace jumps onto the bandwagon or not.
Companies like Google, Apple and Samsung have been successful because they have built their repuations over the last four years in this new smart phone market.
Can this new Nokia Microsoft Lumia work that magic? Nokia has never been successful in the smart phone market. Not yet anyway.
Chris Weber, Nokia’s head in the US market has his hands full with this launch. This is a big one for Nokia.
There is more to becoming a hot smart phone maker than just technology. You have to connect with the customer on an emotional level. The customer has to think of you as a friend and a partner.
Is that how customers think of Nokia and Microsoft? Not yet. Perhaps this could be the beginning of a new successful chapter for these two companies.
I am not holding my breath however. I have seen so many attempts separately. I am not convinced they can be any more successful together.
But I hope they are. There are plenty of employees, shareholders and of course users who would love this to be a success.
We’ll see.
