Unfortunately my Nokia predictions are coming true. Companies like Nokia and RIM, which once lead the handset and smartphone segments just can’t seem to get a grip on the changing marketplace lead by Google and Apple.
Nokia sprung a leak and had been trying to patch it unsuccessfully for years.
Then they got together last year with Microsoft who also failed to successfully connect with their wireless phones.
I said this partnership would either be successful or it would be the blind leading the blind.
Unfortunately it seems like the blind is leading the blind.
This is two successful companies in one segment that are just having a very hard time breaking into another segment.
We can love the companies and the history and what they meant to the industry yesterday, but unless they can reinvent themselves going forward they simply will become irrelevant on the wireless and smart phone space.
Nokia and Windows Phones are rising like a lead balloon so far.
The smart phone market is currently owned by Apple, Samsung and HTC with Google Android. Nokia would like to join that list, but has not been able to crack the code yet.
Can Nokia turn this ship around?
