San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/09/2016 -- To celebrate the Christmas season, Digital Health startup Paubox gave out 500 free bowls of kalua pig and rice in the Mission District of San Francisco this morning on the corner of Mission and 16th streets.

The magic number of 500 symbolizes Paubox's recent graduation from 500 Startups, a leading global venture capital seed fund and startup accelerator. As in previous events, CEO Hoala Greevy, the first native-Hawaiian founder to go through 500 Startups, chose to give the Mission District a taste of Hawaii.

"Last year was such a fun event, and we got great feedback from everyone, even though it was just a small gesture," said Greevy. "So we definitely wanted to do it again, but instead of 100 spam musubis, we're glad to be able to give a little more. Hopefully we will keep having more things to celebrate and can grow this event every year."

In the past year, Paubox has grown over 300% in revenues and seen its customer base increase to over 430 companies throughout the states and Guam. Customers range from small dental practices to hospitals.

Although already profitable, the company is in the middle of fundraising for its seed round to help accelerate their growth.

"Having funding will help us move faster," said Greevy. "We always put our customers first, and it will help us hire the right people to make sure we're delivering a first-class experience from our sales to support."

Kalua pig is one of the cornerstones of Hawaiian cuisine, and is traditionally a pork shoulder butt, rubbed with sea salt, wrapped in ti leaves and slowly cooked in an imu (underground oven).
