ALS Start Up Launches Fundraising Campaign to Help Patients Win the Fight Against ALS

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/17/2014 -- ALSFight.com, the ALS start up service dedicated to helping patients who suffer from ALS find ways to manage and treat their disease, is pleased to announce that they have launched a campaign on Indiegogo.com to help them raise funds to create and design their web and mobile application.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is the most commonly diagnosed motor neuron disease, affecting more than 30,000 people in the United States and more than 300,000 people worldwide. ALS is characterized by the rapid degeneration of nerves in the limbs and vital organs following diagnosis, resulting in atrophy, spasms, muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, breathing and swallowing, and eventually death.

Although ALS is a terminal illness with no known cure, hope remains for those who suffer from the disease, as various treatments have been developed that may significantly slow or even halt the progression of the disease, allowing patients to continue to live meaningful lives.

ALSFight.com will provide many of the resources that people who suffer from ALS need to cope with and treat their symptoms. These include a customizable physical regimen that helps patients set daily therapeutic goals; informational content and videos featuring medical professionals demonstrating the latest techniques in physical therapy that are designed to keep nerves functioning at a high level; dietary plans for helping ALS victims maintain their optimum weight; and a community of supporters and fellow patients to draw on for knowledge, advice and inspiration.

ALSFight.com will also offer tools for tracking the effectiveness of various treatments across the community of ALS sufferers in order to help researchers discover and evaluate the best new therapies. ALSFight.com will give their users the ability to monitor and log the progression of their disease as well as their heart rate, weight and pain level across time.

Supporters of the ALSFight.com project will be helping thousands of people who suffer from ALS find effective treatments and the support they need to overcome their symptoms and live meaningful lives for as long as possible. Depending on their level of contribution, donors will be able to receive pre-release access to the ALSFight.com website, digital downloads of the training material, gift baskets, special edition DVDs, beta user access and more. Anyone who would like to support the cause is encouraged to ‘Like’ ALSFight.com on Facebook and share information about the campaign with family and friends.
