Author Debra S. Welch's eBook Cedar Woman, Emerges a Huge Hit Among Native American Fiction Fans Across the Globe

Washington, DC -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/17/2014 -- Author Debra S. Welch’s eBook Cedar Woman, has emerged as a huge hit among Native American fiction fans across the globe. The eBook by Debra chronicles the life of Lena, a modern Native American woman, on her journey to find her soul mate, and has been praised for its authenticity in depicting Native American life. The eBook has been featured by Kindle Fire User Group, an independent organization that represents Kindle Fire Users as the book of the week.

Cedar Woman was written to honor my sister, Julie Spotted Eagle Horse, a daughter of the Lakota Sioux,” says author Debra Shiveley Welch. “I asked my sister to act as a consultant. I did so because I didn't want to write about the sacred things which are not supposed to be written about, and I wanted to write about those which I could with utmost authenticity. I also wanted to make sure that I represented the Lakota people with the deepest respect and honor. Writing Cedar Woman was a labor of love.”

About Cedar Woman
Winner of the Best Native American Fiction Award 2011, Cedar Woman is a powerful book filled with courage, romance and the beliefs, ceremonies and language of the Lakota Sioux. Travel with Lena to Columbus, Ohio as she rebuilds her life, and the lives of her family. Join her in the sweat lodge as she follows Zitka Mine to the fifth step of the edge of the world to find her father's soul.

“In Cedar Woman, Debra has bypassed a lot of the usual hype and BS often associated with Native culture, producing an honest, clear eyed look at who we really are, albeit through a fictional character,” says Julie Spotted Eagle Horse Martineau, in whose honor the books was written. “While I realize that, unless you have lived as a Native, either on or off the rez, you will never completely understand what it is to be Native. I think that Debra has a pretty good handle on who and what we as Native people are really about. And, thankfully, she did not rely on just my voice alone. The resulting story is one I am proud to say I was a part of, and I am proud to call her my ‘Sister By Choice’.”

Ms. Welch has woven the Lakota language into Cedar Woman as well. “I especially love how thorough she was in researching the subject matter, and I deeply admire her dedication to giving a more realistic look into our culture, including much of our Lakota language,” says Julie Spotted Eagle Horse Martineau.

“We are glad to feature Ms. Welch’s eBook as the eBook of the week,” said Ms. Ann Phipps, a spokesperson for California based independent Kindle Fire User Group. “The independent Kindle Fire User Group was established to serve the needs of users of the Kindle Fire, and bringing such books to them is one way we provide value to our members.”
