Auto Accident Attorney Offers Thoughts on Recent Car Accident Study

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/08/2014 -- According to a recent study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death amongst teenagers. The recently released study, which was conducted in 2012, claimed that 2,439 teenagers were killed in motor vehicle accidents. Rand Spear, The Accident Attorney, claims that the death of teenagers caused by motor vehicle accidents is a growing concern in The United States because the number of reported deaths is more than suicides and homicides amongst teens. Attorney Spear believes that different driving behaviors could be the culprit in so many deaths.

One reason for the high amount of deaths is due to negligence to wear a seat belt, according to a Safe Kids survey. One in four of teens surveyed said they do not always wear a seat belt when riding without an adult present. According to R and Spear, The Accident Attorney, who has represented many victims of auto accidents, teenagers do not make it a priority or develop a habit to wear their seatbelts. Some feel it is not important to wear a seat belt on short trips, or feel that wearing a seatbelt is uncomfortable.

The study also found that teens who do not wear seatbelts are more likely to use their cell phones while driving or riding in a vehicle. 43% of teens surveyed claimed they saw a teen driver talking on the phone, while 39% of teens surveyed said they have ridden with a teen driver who was texting while driving.

The chance of being involved in an automobile accident is greater if the driver is using his or her cell phone while operating the vehicle. Rand Spear, The Accident Attorney says that more accidents occur because drivers are not paying attention to the road and are more focused on their cell phone. By curbing dangerous behaviors of not wearing seatbelts, and by curbing cell phone use while operating a vehicle, it is possible to lower death statistics amongst teens.
