Hoboken's Barsky Gallery Celebrates Super Bowl's Visit to New Jersey with New Exhibit

Hoboken, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/17/2014 -- Art and sport come together this month at the Barsky Gallery in Hoboken, where “Art’s Salute to Football” welcomes visitors with an exhibit celebrating America’s greatest game.

The exhibit, which runs from January 25 through February 8, 2014, aims to connect the local art community with the more than 100,000 Super Bowl fans expected to descend upon the area. The game’s defining feature, the humble football, becomes a canvas for the artist to embellish, adorn, and otherwise enhance, creating reimagined sculptures that resonate with football and art enthusiasts alike.

“This exhibit features some incredible works of art, each one unique despite all starting with a basic foundation: the football,” says gallery owner Al Barsky. “It is such a pleasure to showcase the work of talented local artists in this fun exhibit that we hope will draw the interest of community members and the many athletes, media, fans, and others visiting our region for Super Bowl XLVIII.”

Barsky Gallery will also feature the work of former NY Jets linebacker Aaron Maybin as he makes his return to New Jersey through his art. Maybin, a lifelong artist painting his way through successes and struggles, has made a selection of his paintings available for display throughout the two-week exhibit. The exhibit is running in line with New Jersey’s own arts initiative, intended to foster a festive atmosphere during Super Bowl week. A public art project will see 22 fiberglass footballs, one per player, resting on trees around the city of Newark – a literal artist’s Easter egg for hunters to search for.

Barsky Gallery will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales to NY/NJ Snowflake Youth Foundation, the initiative of the NY/NJ Superbowl Host committee that provides funding to the NY/NJ area after-school clubs and community centers. Those interested in attending the exhibit can find more information on the official tourism site for New Jersey or at Barsky Gallery’s Facebook page.
