BritWeek Los Angeles 2014 Is Coming April 21st to May 4th

Eighth annual UK-LA festival of creativity bigger than ever, including celebration of 450 years of Shakespeare.

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/05/2014 -- BritWeek announced today that its annual Los Angeles program will start on April 21st and run through May 4th. The non-profit organization, which celebrates the multiplicity of creative links between the UK and Los Angeles, will present dozens of events in and around Los Angeles, ranging across arts, science, culture, sports, business, design and entertainment. The program will begin with the invitation-only BritWeek red carpet launch at the British Consul General’s Residence on April 22nd, and culminate in a spectacular event presented by long time BritWeek partner, Jaguar Cars, and a weekend street festival on Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade on May 3rd and 4th with entertainment and activities for the whole family.

“BritWeek was originally founded to say a big thank you to Los Angeles for accepting us Brits, “ said BritWeek co-founder Nigel Lythgoe.” But it has grown and grown, and now it’s really about celebrating all the great British innovation and investment in California and highlighting the creative relationship between LA and the UK. So come to BritWeek and see what’s happening.”

BritWeek art events will range from a show by acclaimed three-dimensional artist Jeff Robb in Beverly Hills, to Shakespeare inspired street art for children led by leading LA street artist Man One. Science will be headlined by Caltech’s eminent British astro-physicist Richard Ellis, speaking at the Griffith Observatory (which was designed by a British architect). Culturally this year, BritWeek will mark the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, and will include a special evening of Shakespearean readings, sonnets and songs featuring Michael York and other distinguished actors. BritWeek will also feature a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by LAUSD students, produced by Inner City Shakespeare. BritWeek’s popular rugby program returns for a third year. The masthead design event will once again be held at the stunning Christopher Guy showroom in West Hollywood.

The BritWeek UKTI Business Innovation Awards dinner will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel on April 23rd, where the winners of this prestigious fifth annual competition will be announced. The competition opened for nominations in December and will remain open until March 7th, 2014 (nomination form located at http://www.britweek.org).
