Capstar Is an Oral Tablet for the Control of Fleas in Dogs and Cats

Hialeah Gardens, FL -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/13/2014 -- The flea is the number one common parasite to infect our pets throughout the United States. Flea infestation grows quickly as these parasites thrive in the comfort of our homes and pets, causing irritation to not only our pets but the owners as well. Pet owners are not only looking for an effective product but a product with FAST acting ingredients.

The Capstar medication contains a fast acting parasitical chemical called Nitenpyram. Nitenpyram starts working almost immediately after the tablet have been ingested, bonding with the blood stream, and spreading throughout the body. The fleas which bite the pet will ingest the chemical compound and die within seconds. It must be noted however that Capstar will only kill the adult fleas, the larvae and eggs are still present on the pet. Capstar is commonly administered with a monthly flea preventative administered topically to terminate the flea problem. Due to Capstar’s fast acting regiment, the medication is often used in veterinary clinics, kennel facilities, and pounds to prevent flea contamination to other pets.

Ailment Associated with Product:
The Flea is a parasitic organism, meaning they must rely on another creature for survival. The flea has four life stages; egg, larva, cocoon, and adult. The flea will wait in its cocoon form until the presence of carbon dioxide (gas exhaled from mammal) is present, awakening the flea. This flea than attaches itself to the pet by biting and cementing itself with secreted saliva on to the pet.

Fleas can cause a number of health problems to a pet. Aliments in which fleas can cause include; allergy induced dermatitis, anemia, and skin lesions. Allergy induced dermatitis is a skin allergy caused by the saliva of a flea. Flea allergy dermatitis can be caused by a single flea as the pet will break out in hives or small pyritic lesions. Skin lesions are defines as infectious sores on the skin. Fleas’ bites cause pets to scratch at themselves vigorously. This violent scratching often opens the skin, allowing bacteria to enter the wound and cause infection.

Anemia is defined as a condition in which the individual contains a lower population of blood cells than what is necessary for body functions. Female fleas consume approximatly13.6 micro liters (+/- 2.7 micro liters) of blood per day, which was equivalent to 15.15 times their body weight. If a cat is heavily contaminated with fleas, blood levels decrease and cause anemia. A pet with anemia will display signs such as; pale mucus membranes, lack of energy, decrease in appetite or thirst, and in extreme cases death.
