Bredbury, UK -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/13/2014 -- Stockport-based heavy haulage firm Chris Bennett Ltd have announced that all of their drivers have completed their required hours of CPC training well in advance of the upcoming September 2014 deadline.
The CPC, or Driver Certificate of Professional Competence, was introduced in 2009 for lorry drivers to ensure that standards were being maintained by those who drive on a professional basis on UK roads.
Many of the Chris Bennett drivers were on ‘acquired rights’, meaning they had been driving before the new rules were brought in by the government. This meant they were required to complete 35 hours of training before September 2014, which was done so with plenty of time to spare.
According to Andy Dakin, a spokesperson from the firm, this demonstrates their commitment to high driving standards. He said: “We’re delighted that we were able to get all of our lorry drivers through the training with plenty of time to spare. Ongoing training and development of our staff is incredibly important to us, and we’ll always ensure that they are fully equipped to deal with every situation that they could meet on the very busy roads of today.”
Last year Chris Bennett Ltd achieved a silver FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) accreditation after achieving a bronze in March 2012. They are now one of only 120 companies in the UK with the silver award.
Alongside this, the majority of the firm’s drivers have completed the required hours of training which will allow them to work on the ongoing Crossrail project, which is helping to link various parts of London and the Home Counties with brand new rail lines.
Mr Dakin added: “The silver FORS accreditation is proving to be a great asset in helping to build the Chris Bennett Ltd business, and has resulted in the acquisition of a number of new customers. In terms of Crossrail, we were very keen to work on such an exciting project - one which is going to have huge benefits for the UK economy and transport network. Ensuring our drivers completed the training for this was, for us, a vital step in our business growth plans.”
