In 2011, revenues of cafes/bars fell by 1% as in 2010. This compares not too poorly with the static review period CAGR of 0%, and continued the negative trend that the category has been experiencing since 2009 when value sales of the category dropped by 4%. Competition from other consumer foodservice categories such as fast food and takeaway outlets, together with consumers' reluctance to spend on non-necessities, has contributed to this negative trend.
