Americans are buying less canned/preserved food. This is because the improved state of the US economy has given consumers the means to pursue healthy living, which does not include canned foods. The high sodium content and processed feel of canned foods does not coincide with the American vision of healthy eating, and the low price point of canned foods, which gave Americans the affordability they needed during the recession, has also given the products an association with poor quality.
