The improvement in the economy, underpinned by a burgeoning housing market and sustained corporate growth, brought many Americans back from the conservative mindset that was adopted by many following the recession. Years of gradual improvement and the ability to purchase assets at low relative cost drove consumers to take out loans in an effort to invest in their futures.
