Recently Released Market Study: Biscuits in Denmark
The fat tax, which was introduced in November 2011, was abolished again on 1 January 2013. The tax was unpopular amongst consumers, proved to put a significant administrative burden on manufacturers and led to an increase in cross-border trade. These negative factors sufficed for Danish politicians to agree on abolishment, even though there were indications that the tax did at least partly fulfil its main mission - to spur Danes to eat healthier.
